Recently, we’ve seen a significant rise in job scams, often involving fraudsters impersonating recruitment companies or consultants.
At Digital Waffle, we’re doing everything we can to raise awareness of the tactics scammers use, and to help protect individuals and organisations from anyone falsely claiming to represent our company or consultants.
Scams currently targeting jobseekers
We’ve recently been made aware of fake messages and job offers sent to candidates, falsely claiming to be from Digital Waffle.
These scams often include:
-
Promises of remote roles with unusually high daily pay
-
Messages sent via text or messaging apps, often without prior contact
-
Communication from free email accounts (such as Hotmail or Gmail) or unfamiliar mobile numbers
-
Poor spelling, grammar, or formatting in the message
These messages are not from us.
In some cases, scammers pretend to represent Digital Waffle or well-known job platforms like Indeed. They may send messages such as:
“Hello! I'm a representative from the HR team at Digital Waffle/Indeed. We've recently reviewed your CV and believe you could be a great fit for a remote online opportunity we're currently offering. Work just 60–90 minutes per day and earn £500–£1,000 daily. Contact us via WhatsApp...”
These types of messages are not genuine and are commonly used to trick jobseekers into handing over personal details.
If you receive anything like this, do not reply, do not click any links, and do not share your information.
If you’re ever unsure whether a message is genuine, contact us directly at hello@digitalwaffle.co and we’ll be happy to confirm.
How to spot a recruitment scam
To protect yourself, here are some simple ways to identify suspicious messages:
What we will NEVER do:
-
Ask you for any kind of payment
-
Contact you by text before calling
-
Use 07856 mobile numbers (these are often used in scams)
-
Message you from a non-Digital Waffle email address
-
Request personal details outside of secure, professional channels
What we WILL do:
-
Always attempt to call you first before sending a message
-
Use your first name in messages (not “Hi”, “Hello” or “Dear” with no name)
-
Communicate using official email addresses only (e.g. name.surname@digitalwaffle.co, name@digitalwaffle.co, name@digitalwaffle.de).
-
Never send links via text
Tip: Not sure if the person contacting you really works at Digital Waffle? You can always check our meet the team page. It is kept up to date with our current consultants.
